Our story

We're just a family who wanted more time together.

Last year, my husband Ashley came across a statistic that stopped us both in our tracks: you've already spent 80% of your time with your child by the time they turn 13. By 18, it's 90%.

We looked at each other, looked at our daughter, and made a decision. We were going to do the Big Lap.

The planning started. So did the chaos.

We knew we wanted to go. What we didn't know was where to start. What car did we actually need? Which caravan? How much would it cost just to get road-ready — let alone be on the road for months?

We did what everyone does. We followed Instagram accounts, joined Facebook groups, saved reels we'd never find again. It helped, but it wasn't enough. We wanted somewhere that could bring it all together properly — a place to get genuine advice from people who'd actually done it, track our budget, plan the route, and get answers about our specific rig and situation.

And there was something else we kept coming back to: we knew that for some of the more remote and off-road legs of the trip, we shouldn't be heading out alone. That place didn't exist. So Ashley started building it.

Then came the trip that made it obvious.

We recently went away with four other families. Between us we had a WhatsApp group for logistics, Splitwise for costs, a shared note for what was booked, and about six different conversations happening in parallel. Nobody knew what had actually been confirmed. Someone double-booked a site.

It was fun — but it was also unnecessarily hard. Planning a trip with people you love shouldn't feel like managing a small project across five different apps. That frustration became the other half of Ready to Roam.

So, what is Ready to Roam?

At its core, it's your all-in-one place to explore, plan and document your adventures — no matter where you are in Australia.

You can plan and budget for a trip properly, whether it's a long weekend or a year on the road. You can ask the Roamer community for real advice about rigs, routes, free camps and everything in between. You can document your journey as it happens — photos, day logs, memories — and share it easily with family and friends back home.

Travelling with a group? It gets even better.

If you've ever tried to coordinate a group trip, you already know the pain. The WhatsApp threads that spiral out of control. The "wait, did someone actually book that?" message at 9pm the night before you leave.

Ready to Roam was built for exactly this. Every family in the group has access to the same trip — the itinerary, the costs, the bookings, the conversations. Expenses are logged and split as you go, so there's no awkward settle-up at the end. One app, one trip, everyone on the same page.

Find your people on the road.

Here's something nobody tells you when you start planning a big trip: some of Australia's most incredible places aren't somewhere you should go alone. Remote tracks, river crossings, serious off-road terrain — the golden rule is you travel with at least one other vehicle.

That's one of the things we're building Ready to Roam to solve — for ourselves as much as anyone. The ability to see who else in the community is heading somewhere near you, on a similar timeline, who might be up for tackling a stretch of road together.

What we believe.

  • Trips are better planned together. One person shouldn't carry the load for everyone.
  • The moments matter more than the destination. We built the tools to capture both.
  • Real advice from real travellers beats a generic algorithm. The Roamer community exists for exactly that.
  • You shouldn't need five apps to go camping. One should be enough.
  • The people back home want to come along too. Now they can.
  • Some roads are better travelled with company. We'll help you find it.

Our adventure starts in October.

We're not just building Ready to Roam — we're using it. Every feature we add comes from something we actually needed. Our Big Lap starts in October, and we'll be living in the app the entire time.

Follow along as we go. Our trip will be right there on the platform — a real journey, documented in real time, the same way yours will be.
