π VIC
The W.B. Godfrey was a barque wrecked here in March 1891 while sailing from San Francisco to Melbourne, with all crew and passengers surviving the initial wreck. Salvage attempts that followed resulted in multiple maritime accidents, killing several men over the following months. Wreckage remains visible on the rocks below the cliff, and a headstone erected in 1930 marks the grave site. Located near Wye River on Victoria's Great Ocean Road, this is a poignant reminder of the hazards of 19th-century maritime trade.
