Great views and sunset but definitely need to get there early to grab a viewing spot and get photos of the lighthouse without cars parked all around it

Perched on the rugged headland overlooking the Indian Ocean, Vlaminghead Lighthouse is an iconic landmark and one of the most scenic spots around Exmouth. Built of bold white and red bands, the lighthouse stands proudly against the endless blue sea, creating a timeless image that’s instantly recognisable. The area around it feels vast and open β€” the salty ocean breeze, dramatic coastal views, and coastal scrub blending into red earth make this a wonderfully immersive place to explore. The real magic of visiting Vlaminghead comes at sunset. As the sun dips toward the horizon, the sky transforms into a sweeping palette of warm golds, pinks and purples, casting long shadows and bathing the lighthouse in gentle, glowing light. The rolling waves catch the colours too, flickering with soft reflections that make the whole scene feel almost cinematic. It’s easy to lose track of time as the hues shift, and the horizon seems to stretch forever. There’s a simple walking track from nearby town, and the terrain is mostly easy underfoot, so visitors of all ages can enjoy the views. Bring a camera β€” but also take moments to just breathe it in. Whether you’re after peaceful contemplation, memorable photographs, or a stunning backdrop for a picnic, Vlaminghead Lighthouse at sunset is an unforgettable experience.

I love the views from the lighthouse at any time of day (and probably at night during a full moon!). Watching the sunset or simply enjoying the majestic scenery in every direction - out to the ocean and across the land - is unforgettable. I could easily spend hours up there!

This lighthouse is a must visit, you cannot go into it but the views from the car park and viewing area are beautiful. It’s also full of information boards about the local history, the gun tower which is roped off to protect the WWII sandbags still situated around it. The sandbags look like overtime they have become petrified and resemble big stones it was fascinating to see them.
