Undara Volcanic National Park features dramatic lava tubes from ancient volcanic activity. Camping not permitted within the park; only option is Undara Discovery Resort offering restored turn-of-century rail carriages, camping (BYO or tent city), caravanning, pioneer huts and homestead rooms. The caravan park has 58 powered van sites (drive-through and reverse-in) plus unpowered options. Alternatively stay in Mount Surprise (50km) or Mount Garnet (94km). Best to visit April-September (cooler, drier). 3.5-4 hours from Cairns, 4-5.5 hours from Townsville.
