Toolangi State Forest is located in Victoria's Central Highlands, extending from Mount Monda to Murrindindi, approximately 90 minutes northeast of Melbourne. Covering approximately 38,000 hectares, the forest consists mainly of eucalypt woodland that regrew following the devastating 1939 Victoria Bushfires. The forest is renowned as habitat for the rare Leadbeater's possum and features the Kalatha tree, one of Victoria's largest at 65 metres tall and estimated at 400 years old. Popular for bushwalking, birdwatching, mountain biking, and four-wheel driving, it offers visitors excellent recreational opportunities.
