About Stony Creek Trestle
This 276-metre-long timber trestle bridge rises 19 metres high near Nowa Nowa in Victoria's Gippsland region, built in 1916 from locally sourced red iron bark and grey box timbers. Widely recognized as the largest standing wooden trestle bridge of its type in Australia and possibly the southern hemisphere, the bridge operated as part of the Melbourne-Orbost railway extension for 60 years. Today, the site features an elevated viewing platform at one abutment with picnic tables and toilet facilities for visitors on the East Gippsland Rail Trail.
