About Sharky Beach

Shark Beach is a small, sheltered harbour beach within Nielsen Park in Vaucluse on Sydney's eastern side, protected by a shark net during the October to April swimming season. Despite its name, the beach takes its designation from nearby Shark Island rather than shark activity, making it one of the safest harbour swimming spots. The beach features clear, tranquil waters and is backed by a promenade with the Nielsen Park CafΓ©, toilets, barbecues and picnic tables.

This is a great little beach. Easy to park, toilets and outside shower, dog friendly.

This beach was not busy. There were a lot of dog owners with dogs having a ball running up and down. Plenty of space to take a picnic rug and sit. At the time we visited, 2pm Sunday afternoon there was parking available. There was a sign not recommended to swim.

Lovely laid back beach. It's great to take your furry friend, or just to have a picnic, and enjoy long walks along the adjoining beaches. Have been coming for decades, and will continue to do so. 😁

Dog friendly beach with parking and plenty of green space for picnics. Not much shelter from the sun so be sure to bring something with you if planning on spending the day. A little quieter than Austinmer Beach down the road. The beach is not patrolled and the currents are really strong so exercise caution if going for a swim πŸŠβ€β™€οΈ

Great stretch of beach on the east coast.. Plenty of dogs around. Excellent views out to ocean as far as the eye can see. You'll always see cargo ships afar. Great views of the Illawarra Escarpment. Toilets. Plenty of parking but on peak days you can get a full house. Plenty of areas to swim. Nice place for a picnic, relax, swim and enjoy your day. Even better on winters when there is less commotion. Always pop in when time allows.
