Trees are overgrown and visibility is very poor. Once was the optimum place to overlook the whole of Ballarat.

We parked near the summit, where sandstone cliffs still bear the scars of Ballarat’s gold rush. The scent of eucalyptus drifted through the air as mountain bikers zipped past below. At the rail, I paused and watched the light spill across the rooftops, hearing distant tyres and birdsong. A lookout shaped by history, reclaimed by motion and quiet awe.

Walk a short distance from bus 14 and you will find the lookout. There are parking lots, tap water and tables for picnic.

Good old 'Black Hill Reserve'! It would be nice to not have as many 'Bike Riding' tracks on there these days! Bring back the old Carpark and Viewing Area Ballarat City Council!

Great place for hiking in Ballarat. We did about 15000 steps after all, through stunning pine trees, up and down terrain. Love to be back soon.
