This is one of the most beautiful natural places I have seen in my life. The water colors are unreal. We almost felt like we were on a movie set. Make sure you bring gripping/climbing gloves and good water shoes for the 200' climb where you are hanging on to ropes, chains, and wooden ladders. Also bring plenty of snacks and water. Overall people doing the hike are very friendly and willing to share their knowledge and supplies.

Mooney Falls is an absolute must-do when you're in Havasupai, but let me be clear: it is absolutely not for the faint of heart. The climb down is challenging, to say the least. You're navigating slippery, wet rock faces with chains, ropes, and a few ladders. There are moments where you'll be focused purely on your hand placement and footwork, and if you have any fear of heights or confined spaces, you'll definitely be pushing your limits. However, once you make it to the bottom, the reward is simply immense. The sheer power and beauty of Mooney Falls from its base are breathtaking.

Mooney Falls, nestled in the Southern Nantahala Wilderness near Otto, North Carolina, offers a brief yet rewarding hiking experience. The trail to the falls is very short and descending about 100 feet through a series of switchbacks to reach the base of the waterfall . Upon reaching the falls, we were greeted by a picturesque cascade that fans out over rock formations, creating a serene and photogenic scene. Mooney Falls is not be a destination hike on its own, it is often combined with nearby trails.

Such a beautiful place. The hike is short from the camp ground but tough. Beautiful trail by the side of the hill and through rocky tunnel and steep path down but worth it. The short steep path near the falls is very steep and very wet from the falls misty winds. WEAR VERY GOOD GRIPPY SHOES AND KEEP CHILDREN CLOSE IF YOU BRING THEM. One step wrong can bring you down 100 feet on a free fall. I wish they construct a better way to come down the hill soon.

My fourth visit to the sacred lands of the Havasupai Tribe. It was magical 🖤🖤especially visiting with husband. The trek down Mooney Falls is always stressful for me. I made it tho !!! Remember you have to secure a permit prior to visiting. This is no day hike, it’s a backpacking adventure so do your research.
