Mon Repos is home to Australia's largest concentration of nesting sea turtles and hosts the endangered loggerhead turtle's most significant nesting population in the South Pacific Ocean. From November to March, adult turtles come ashore to lay eggs, and about eight weeks later hatchlings emerge and journey to the sea. Guided tours by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service rangers operate nightly during breeding season, with up to 300 visitors allowed nightly.
