About Mitchell River National Park

A 14,250-hectare national park in Gippsland, 25 kilometres northwest of Bairnsdale, protecting the spectacular gorges and cliffs carved by Victoria's largest unregulated river. The Mitchell River was designated a Heritage River in 1992. Located on Brabralung clan Country, the park features the cultural site Den of Nargun where tradition holds a fierce half-human, half-stone being resides. Rainforest gullies and Aboriginal heritage sites offer immersive nature experiences.
