About Mentone Dog Beach

Mentone Dog Beach, located 21 kilometres south of Melbourne on Port Phillip Bay, is a 1.6-kilometre beach backed by 20-metre high bluffs. The western section is a 24-hour off-leash dog zone, while the eastern section allows dogs off-leash from sunrise to 10am on sand only; between 10am and 7:30pm dogs must be on-leash. Winter restrictions (1 April – 31 October) apply, with on-leash requirements from 11am to 3pm. Facilities include the Mentone Life Saving Club with water, toilets, showers and a family change room.

Good beach for dogs to run free. Bit of seaweed on the sand. But that doesn't bother the dogs

Great place to take your dog for a stroll or a dip in the ocean. The other dog owners were friendly. Dogs were both on and off lead. There are quite a lot of stairs to go down, however there is also a ramp a bit further along.

Mentone dog beach. Doggie heaven. Lovely, clean water with plenty of space for the doggies to roam and sniff. Everyone very respectful. Just be aware that there’s no bin for poo bags down by the beach, so make sure to take it with you when you leave.

One of the best dog beaches in the area! The water is typically great, and the depending on the time of the year, the off leash dog beach extends all the way towards Mordialloc! Sometimes the water can get a bit fully of seaweed and other debris (particularly after a storm), but is generally okay. Beach is quite large and great for dog socialisation.

Such a perfect spot for dogs to run around and swim. Water is super shallow, clean and most importantly safe to swim in. Large size of the beach that is off-lead all year so no need to worry about which part of the year is okay to bring your dogs. Overall myself and my dog really enjoy this spot. If there was anything negative I'd only say lack of shade on the sand and no shower to rise off when leaving, Also a drinking fountain would be much suited close by the beach not by the carpark.
