The park isn’t much different from many other parks in Australia. It’s not really worth making a special trip just to visit it, as getting there requires taking a ferry, which involves both cost and effort. However, if you’re already on the island, it’s a nice place to visit while you’re there. The park has good signage with information about the local wildlife and vegetation, and there are usually restrooms and parking available.

This is a great park, beautiful scenery with beaches, wildlife , the old coastal WWII military fortifications and hiking/trekking trails. Only a short bus ride from Nellys Bay ferry terminal to begin your adventure!

We re-walked the Fort walking trail as we wanted to see koalas. We started earlier this time and saw the sunrise. Koala seen around 7.15am just getting cosy for his tree. Super cute. More photos showing good walking paths and stairs. Remember to take a hat and water with good walking shoes.

Beautiful place, lots of stuff to do.. we did the forts walk and managed to spot a koala 🐨 It's recommended to do the walk early in the morning or late in the afternoon as it can be very hot.. the beaches were also gorgeous 😍 make sure to drive around the island as the views are astonishing..

The island boasts the biggest gathering of koala bears in the world, totalling some 800. There is ample opportunity for walks, drives, beach activities and places to stay as well. There is so much to do, I suggest you plan to spend 2-3 nights on the island. We brought our own vehicle which was useful as we could then traverse the island at our own pace. There are some breathtaking views at almost every point on the island. There are bars and restaurants as well as beaches and coves in which you can relax. Sights, smells and sounds are captivating and while probably not unique to the island, are quite amazing. As I found throughout Australia, the people are friendly and welcoming.
