Just 13 kilometres north of Newcastle, Hunter Wetlands National Park is a birdwatcher's paradise, home to over 200 species that live in or migrate through the Hunter estuaries. The park offers walking and cycling trails through rainforest, fishing opportunities, and access to Riverside Park on Ash Island. The Hunter Wetlands Centre (open daily 9amβ4pm) features guided tours, wildlife talks, canoeing and dip-netting activities, though pets are not permitted and mobile reception is limited.
