Beautiful spot with a peaceful rainforest vibe. The walk down to the waterfall is really enjoyable, surrounded by ferns and greenery all the way. It can get a bit slippery and muddy in places, but the handrails make it manageable. The waterfall itself is stunning and worth the walk. Great place to relax, take photos, and enjoy nature. Definitely recommend stopping here if you’re nearby.

A truly beautiful and peaceful waterfall tucked inside lush rainforest near Melbourne The short walk down to Hopetoun Falls is scenic, with well-maintained steps and viewpoints along the way. The waterfall itself is stunning, especially after rainfall when the flow is strong. It’s a perfect spot for nature lovers, photography, and a quiet escape from the city. Tip: Be prepared for a bit of a climb back up, and wear comfortable shoes as the steps can be steep. Highly recommended if you’re exploring the Great Ocean Road region!

This was our favourite stop during our Great Ocean Road trip. The waterfall is so beautiful with all the lush trees/plants around it. We have arrived around 3pm on a Sunday afternoon and there was noone else there, just us. It was written an a sign that platypus live in this river, so you might see one if you are extremly lucky. Unfortunately we havent seen any. There are enough parking space, and there is a 5-10 min walk between the viewpoint and the parking. I highly recommend to add this place to your journey.

15 min walk to the waterfall, the trek back can be slightly strenuous. If you're visiting this place, I also recommend going to the redwoods nearby. Absolutely picturesque moments at this waterfall.

I visited Hopetoun Falls in November 2025 and it was a great experience. The short 5-minute walk from the car park to the falls was pleasant, with a well-maintained track that made the trek easy and enjoyable. The view at the bottom was absolutely worth it — the waterfall was powerful, peaceful, and surrounded by beautiful rainforest scenery. Overall, it’s an excellent spot for anyone looking for a quick and rewarding nature stop in the Otways.
