About Gunns Plains Cave State Park

Gunns Plains Cave State Reserve near Ulverstone in northwest Tasmania features a 275-metre tour route into chambers and passages with magnificent calcite shawls and flowstone formations. The river that carved the cave still flows with platypus nestling on sandy banks and giant freshwater crayfish found only in Northern Tasmania. Glow-worms create a glimmering display on cave roofs, and the ten-hectare reserve includes toilets, wood BBQ, and shelter hut.

We had a great time at Gunns Plains Caves. They kindly accommodated just our family, including our young daughter, which made for a really enjoyable experience. Our guide was knowledgeable, funny, and very entertaining, making the tour engaging from start to finish. The caves themselves were fascinating, and the whole experience exceeded our expectations. We’d highly recommend a visit to anyone travelling through the area.

Well it’s one of the many caves spread around Tasmania and the unicorn thing about this particular cave the lighting worms is a very limited appearance no eels or platypus seen and if you need to a special effort to arrive so you can skip it but if you near by you gone enjoy the very professional and comic explanation of the guide
