About Grotto

The Grotto near Port Campbell is a spectacular sinkhole formation on the Great Ocean Road where the ocean meets a natural window-like arch carved into limestone cliffs. A smooth boardwalk descends to viewing platforms where you can watch Southern Ocean swells crash against the boulders and rock pools below. The lichen-covered cliffs attract seabirds, and the easy walking track takes roughly 13 minutes to complete.

Fantastic spot, walk right down on the dedicated path to the sink/blow hole for great photos, well worth it.

A striking coastal cliff with rugged rock formations and a natural arch carved by the ocean. The contrast between the golden cliffs and the deep blue water creates a strong visual impact, especially when viewed up close. The spot feels raw and untouched, with wind, waves, and open space all coming together. It’s not overly crowded, which makes the experience more relaxed and enjoyable. Overall, a great place for photos and a short stop to take in the coastal landscape. Simple, but visually impressive.

Walk from the carpark is a few hundred metres. Easy walk down a ramp. The last bit into the grotto are steps. There's a viewing platform at the bottom. You can't walk onto the rocks.

This place was so beautiful, up the top at the first look out point you could hear the intensity of the ocean crashing into the rocks. Down the bottom there was silence. My husband didn’t climb the stairs & did he miss out on a gem! This attraction is not suited to impaired or wheelchair people, I would suggest a medium level of fitness, the stairs were quite manageable and there was places you could stop & rest if needed. I would recommend a visit to this lovely place if you’re able.

This was one of the coolest stops on the Great Ocean Road. It is really interesting because it is a sinkhole, a cave, and an archway all in one. The walk down the stairs is easy and reveals a perfect window out to the ocean. If you look closely at the rock formation, it actually looks like the shape of Australia! πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ίβ˜ΊοΈ The water in the rock pool is so calm compared to the crashing waves behind it. It feels much more intimate than the massive cliffs at the Apostles 🌊.
