Absolutely beautiful — a place you must visit at least once. You can drive along the beach, and the coastline is long and stunning. A 4WD vehicle is required, and you need to apply for an access permit online before entering. If you’re driving from Freshwater Road to Cooloola beach, the track before reaching the beach can be quite challenging, but once you’re on the sand, it’s much easier to drive. I recommend heading towards Double Island Point Lighthouse, it’s incredibly scenic and there are also great spots for snorkeling.

Great experience exploring Great Sandy National Park, especially the inland tracks around Cooloola. The Camp Milo track was a fun and scenic drive — proper 4WD territory with a mix of sand and bush tracks. Peaceful surroundings, not too crowded, and perfect if you enjoy getting off the beaten path. Definitely worth it for a day trip or camping adventure. Just make sure you’re well-prepared and take it steady on some sections!
