About Four Mile Beach

Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas is Far North Queensland's most recognisable beach, fringed with golden sands and swaying palms with no visible development over the tree line. The beach offers activities including cycling, sun lounges and swimming in the lifeguard-patrolled area at the northern end, where you'll also find the trailhead to Flagstaff Hill. Cafes and restaurants are within walking distance, and the beach's proximity to the Great Barrier Reef makes it an ideal base for reef day trips. The annual Port Douglas Carnivale is held in May.

With the Carnival in full swing is was a great place to visit. Lots of families enjoying the atmosphere of the massive kites and the incredible sand sculptures. Hats off to the organisers.

Four Mile Beach is absolutely amazing! It is incredibly wide, pristine, and seems to go on forever—we went for a long walk and didn't even manage to reach the end of it! The beach is very clean and well-maintained. We felt completely safe going for a swim since we used the designated, patrolled swimming area (which is highly recommended here!). If you can, make sure to head down here early in the morning—the sunrise over the water is spectacular and incredibly peaceful. It was one of the highlights of our time in Port Douglas!

Despite my high anticipations, the sight of sea litter scattered by the heavy storms and rain was disheartening. Nevertheless, Port Douglas remains a stunning destination. Its charming cafes and excellent dining options make it a wonderful spot for a getaway.

Lovely netted off (jellyfish) beach. Life guards patrolling and sand as far our as you can walk. Fabulous swim rudely interrupted by Tiger sharks lookimg for a snack. Lifeguards were on the ball and sounded the alarm as soon as fins were spotted.
