Fountain Springs Rest Area is a free overnight stop 60 kilometres east of Mt Isa on the Barkly Highway. Facilities include flushing public toilets, picnic tables with BBQs, and a water tap (non-potable). The hard-packed sand and paved drive-through areas suit both self-contained and non-self-contained vehicles. Maximum stay is 20 hours, and the site features easy access to Fountain Springs Falls, a natural waterhole set among dramatic rocky outcrops just 300 metres away.
