Great spot to take visitors to see kangaroos and koalas in the wild. With spotting koalas you’ve just go to be patient. The first section is the best area to spot, around all the trees with light colour bark. I have been 5 times and spotted koalas each time. Also good for a walk or bike ride, lots of paths and tracks to explore. Take water and wear big spray.

Located near the Gold Coast, this sanctuary is famous for its wild kangaroos and koalas. After parking, we walked into the forest and started looking up for koalas. Luckily, we found one changing its position. Continuing along the trail, we came to a large grassland where kangaroos gathered. However, visitors are advised to arrive before noon or in the evening, as the animals will hide away in the midday heat. It's a worthwhile sanctuary to visit.

I’ve visited a few times and taken a different path on each visit. It’s a lovely, flat walk with no traffic noise, so you quickly forget you’re surrounded by Gold Coast shops and homes. There are plenty of kangaroos around, and they seem quite relaxed as long as you keep your distance. If you’re lucky, you might also spot a koala. The area is peaceful and full of beautiful trees and native flowers. Make sure to bring water, as there are no water or toilet facilities. Opening hours are 6am–6pm, which helps protect the wildlife and keep the area quiet and calm.

A wonderful afternoon stroll, plenty of kangaroos around and we saw 2 koalas up in the trees. There was plenty of people around but that just parked a little further away and enjoyed the walk. Definitely recommended coming here to check out the beautiful scenery, it really feels like Australia. The weather was outstanding.

Coombabah Lakelands Conservation Area is an excellent natural reserve and a wonderful place to experience Australian wildlife in its natural habitat. I loved walking through the peaceful trails and seeing kangaroos grazing freely across the open fields, as well as spotting koalas resting in the eucalyptus trees. The area is also home to many other species, including birds and wetland animals, which makes it especially interesting for nature lovers and photographers. The paths are easy to follow, the environment feels calm and well-preserved, and the focus on conservation is clear. Overall, it’s a beautiful, educational, and highly recommended place to visit.
