Coledale Beach stretches 400 metres along the Illawarra coast north of Wollongong, bordered by cliffs and rock platforms at either end. The beach faces east-southeast beneath the Illawarra Escarpment and offers excellent fishing from rocky outcrops. Patrolled during NSW school holidays (September to April), the beach has a camping reserve on its edge and the historic Coledale Surf Life Saving Club, founded in 1916. The right and left-hand breaks make it a popular surfing destination.
