Covering 2,980 square kilometres in Central Queensland's Maranoa Region, Carnarvon National Park was gazetted in 1932 to preserve dramatic sandstone gorges and Aboriginal cultural heritage. The park records over 210 bird species and 60 mammal species, with artesian springs in the Salvator Rosa section recognized as among the state's most biodiverse ecosystems. More than 2,000 documented Aboriginal rock art examples illustrate the significant Indigenous presence within the gorge landscape.
