π Cape Otway, VIC
The cemetery at Cape Otway holds the graves of lighthouse keepers, their families, and victims of shipwrecks near this historic site on the Great Ocean Road. A 30-minute return walk from the lighthouse passes through heritage landscape dotted with graves from the 19th and 20th centuries. The walking trail is easy to moderate and offers insights into the area's maritime history and the dedicated families who staffed the beacon.

Make sure you check opening times to avoid disappointment. Tickets are currently half price as you can't go right up to or in the lighthouse. It is still definitely worth the drive, which is also very pretty, to see the lighthouse and other buildings. The history is well laid out and we found it very interesting. The views are absolutely amazing. Though we didn't visit, food and drinks are available at the cafe. Would recommend visiting.

Definitely worth the trip from Lorne to visit. So much history. So much to see. The woman who served us was knowledgeable and such a great ambassador for the Lightstation. She pointed out all the various features, apologised for no access to the Lightstation and was a lovely person to meet. Highly recommend this as a great place to visit.

More than just a lighthouse, there's historical artefacts in a couple buildings around the site too. The cafe on site was handy for keeping warm whilst enjoying the view - food not so much. The lighthouse itself was closed as they were doing maintenance, but they compensated this by charging us only half price at $11 per adult (Apr 2026), toddlers (

We visited Cape Otway Lightstation as a fun and educational activity for the kids, given it is the oldest surviving Lighthouse on mainland Australia. The drive in was good, and we tried to spot some koalas on the way. On arrival, we saw that tickets were half price. This was great, but we were disappointed to hear that parts of the precinct was closed for maintenance, including the part where you walk up to the lighthouse. Had we known at the start of the road in, we probably would have given it a miss until the maintenance was completed. Inside the precinct, we found it all little underwhelming as it wasn't just the Lightstatio closed but also another main building to explore, as well as the aboriginal education trail. All in all, the drive in, location and lookouts were all great. Though not worthy paying an entry fee if the main attraction is not accessible.

Beautiful spot with great views. Plenty of car spots. Wheelchair access. Lovely easy walking tracks. Great bit of history and small type museums. Great cafe with good coffees and lovely cakes. Only rated 4 star as could not enter lighthouse due to repairs. Only charged half price entry due to repairs. Fair enough. Also a beautiful winding rainforest to drive to and from the site. Definitely not worth a visit
