Magnificent Bunya Pines, landscapes and views. Worth the drive normally. Lost a star due to the carpark being renovated with either no access or a convoluted access to forest walks on the day we visited. Also no wildlife or birds due to noise from carpark reno's......how's the serenity?..... none existent. Should be an amazing place again when the work is done.

Very nice place. We spent three days in the Park and went for a number of nice walks.

We had a fabulous trip out this morning and early afternoon to the Bunya Mountains, 58km Southwest of Kingaroy, which hold a unique significance as being the largest traditional pan-tribal gathering place in eastern Australia. This makes them one of the most important cultural landscapes on the continent, alongside Uluru (a.k.a Ayers Rock). Certainly the view from the J.S. Fisher Lookout, at 1070 metres (3510 feet), was utterly magnificent. Looking out over the Bunya grasslands is to view unique relics of a much cooler climate, that have existed since the last ice age. They persisted due to regular burning by Aboriginal peoples over many thousands of years, a process known as "fire farming". Recent core samples confirmed that Indigenous fire management was occurring on the Bunya Mountains as far back as 9,000 years ago, during the Holocene era.

A short drive from Dalby, brings you to a small but beautiful mountain range. It offers expansive views from many lookouts and well maintained hiking trails. Don't miss Paradise Falls, Little Falls and Mt. Kiangarow. See Bunya Pines (of course!) Xanthorrhoea trees and Subtropical Rainforest, lovely clear streams and a multitude of birdlife including the amusing Catbird! Highly recommended!
